On 5th and 6th June 2024, our University hosted “Climate Academy,” organized by the Sustainable Development Competence Center Green Team and the Sustainable Development Office in collaboration with Credit Agricole Bank, start-up TerGo, InQUBE, and the Think Tank Impakt Dolny Śląsk.
The event was organised by dr Karolina Daszyńska-Żygadło, dr Dominika Hadro, prof. WUEB, dr Ewa Popowicz and dr Joanna Macalik. Its primary objective was to utilize the sprint methodology, where small, interdisciplinary teams solved challenges presented by three impact-driven startups and two foundations. The event was open to students from Wrocław universities and staff proficient in English.
The event commenced with a lecture by Ewa Kiełsznia from the startup TerGo, who outlined the challenges businesses and society face in the context of climate change. She then introduced a carbon footprint calculation tool, enabling each workshop participant to discover their greenhouse gas emissions.
During the first part of the workshop, over 20 students and staff members formed five project groups and were assigned a project for analysis. Each group then had the opportunity to interview the organization representative to clarify the challenge and gather in-depth information. The first day of the Climate Academy concluded with an integration and hands-on education session, featuring a sustainable cooking workshop conducted by the social enterprise catering company, Stara Piekarnia.

The second day began with an online lecture by Vanessa Daswani, the Inner Development Leadership Coach, during which participants learned more about sustainable leadership. Following the lecture, the project teams, under the guidance of Joanna Macalik, Ewa Popowicz, Dominika Hadro, Dawid Kościewicz and Karolina Daszyńska-Żygadło as facilitators, worked on the challenges defined the previous day, developing solutions for the startups and foundations. The day ended with the presentation of the developed advices for organization and a discussion with the founders, who were impressed by the creativity and commitment of the workshop participants.
Thank you for participating in the Climate Academy, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
